It is always hard when you lose an old friend

Sadly, this week, we lost our herd matriarch, Millie. She has been mentioned on the podcast many times and has been with us for 15 years. Seeing her twice a day for that length of time is a lot of alpaca interaction.

She had an amazing attitude and taught me a lot, including how to avoid being spat at. A clear leader of the herd, she will be missed, and the other girls are now going through the adjustment of grieving and accommodating to the new reality with the gap at the feeding buckets and in leading to the grazing. So glad to have known Millie.

There was a memorable incident when she got stuck in the mud and had to be rescued by the fire brigade. Here are the pictures and this is the episode if you want to enjoy it again.

  1. Dear Millie ~
As you walk your way toward the Rainbow Bridge, Sweet Girl, there are as many to greet you as you leave behind. You will be in good company, as we will be with our memories. Imagine the stories & ballads to be told & sung – all the exploits of a life well lived. Travel well. ~ Diane The Witch of Whidbey
